Welcome to the SALections! We hope you find this newsletter inspiring and just maybe it will make you laugh out loud or shed a tear. Here we go. February 2026 is all LOVE SONGS **************************************** LOVE SONGS This is our 2nd annual LOVE SONG edition for February as we compiled a list of 14 LOVE SONGS in February 2025, so why not do it again. Luther / Bruno / Barbara / Sinatra / Barry / and Beyonce you could very well see them all on this years list. There are 14 Songs on the list for obvious reasons and we are starting with something from The Temptations. Released in November 1984, this is, "Treat Her Like a Lady." The next song was released in 1972 and written for Michael Jackson. It's Beyonce's version played at the MJ tribute in 2011. It's none other than, "I Wanna Be Where You Are." Making the list from Silk Sonic, the combination of Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak. This song, "Leave the Door Open" was released in March 2021 and played at the 63rd Grammy Awards by Bruno and Anderson. Our next song goes back to the Sixties...... It was also utilized in the Bond Film, Casino Royale and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. It is covered here by the amazing Diana Krall and the video treatment is memorable for this classic, The Look of Love. ************************************************************* We are taking a short break from the LOVE SONG list for February to bring you a new segment, Acoustic and Acapella. ACOUSTIC and ACAPELLA This first song we are looking at in Acoustic and Acapela is the 1977 single, "How Deep is Your Love." Acoustic - TJ Taotua And in this rare version, the same song.... Acapella - The Bee Gees ************************************************ FAVORITE DISHES Red Pepper Rollatini My cousin Patty was a phenomenal cook. She had so many talents and cooking was definitely a passion for her. We will be using her special dish (below) as a logo for this category in Patty’s honor. This dish is so tasty and can be very low cal too. You can make it with Cottage Cheese (lower calories) or Riccotta filling. You take some whole red peppers that are marinated and soft and you roll them with either cottage cheese or ricotta in them. Sprinkle them with some breadcrumbs, seasoning, garlic and add some gravy. Then put them in a pan in the oven for 25 minutes at 350 and voila / a sumptuous treat. ***************************************************************** Paying it forward on VALENTINES DAY ********************************************************* LOVE SONGS CONTINUED As we move back to the list, this song released in 1980 by Barbara Streisand Featured Barry Gibb in "Guilty." It was rare to see Barbara so taken on stage with a performer but the chemistry here is just off the charts between these two. Recorded by the Four Seasons in 1974, this song was released by Frankie Valli, "My Eyes Adored You." Olivia Dean is so damn infectious. She was named the breakthru artist of the year in 2021 by Amazon. The British singer songwriter busted thru in 2025 with the "MAN I NEED." Not only did she win Fashion for the Night with this Black and White Givenchy dress..... but she was also named Best New Artist at the Grammy's! Congratulations Olivia! Here is "Man I Need." Another one who could have a number of songs on the list, the incomparable, Luther Vandross. We slow it down with Luther, a song written by Brenda Russell and released in 1985. As if his Voice wasn't amazing enough, Luther wrote and arranged much of his music. He also went over his songs line by line with his background singers, so they knew when he would come in and when they would harmonize. If you ever go to the Grammy Museum in LA, they have a whole section for Luther. This is, "If Only for One Night." Recorded at Sigma Studio's in Philadelphia and written by Gamble & Huff in 1967 for the Intruders, we are enclosing a soulful version of "Together" by Tierra. Now you could not have a list of Love Songs, without the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. Composed by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields this is Frank with, "The Way You Look Tonight." One of the finest love songs written recently was performed by Daniel Caesar. Written in 2017, with some of the best lyrics you will ever here, this is the Best Part by Jacob Collier and Daniel in Toronto. Collier is the musical genius who plays 14 instruments and was discovered by the late, great Quincy Jones. Jacob is damn near a vurtuoso on the piano and his playing is second to none of this treatment. Here is a brief sample of the lyrics, " You're the coffee that i need in the morning, You're my sunshine in the rain when it's pouring. I wanna see how beautiful you are. You know that I see it. I know you're a star. Where you go, I'll follow. No matter how far. If Life is a Movie, then you're the BEST PART." Written in 2023 for his wife, this is Chris Stapleton singing, "I Think I'm in Love with You" at the Country Music Awards with Dua Lipa. Dua, who is known for being out front when performing, in a really classy move backed on the stage just so Chris could look straight across the stage at his wife while singing this love song to her. Hailing from Northern Ireland and known as Van the Man to his many fans, Van Morrison is on the list with this number from the Bridget Jones Diary film. "I've been traveling a hard road, looking for Someone exactly like you. He has been all around the world and this is Van Morrison, with "Someone Like You" to make it all worthwhile. Last but not least, the Maestro of Love. None other than Barry White! Before we get to his music, let's go back to the Conan O'Brien Days (May in 2000) and this interview with Barry. From his 1974, Can't Get Enough album, this is Barry with, "Your the First, the Last, My Everything." The anthem was a hit all around the world shooting to number 1 in England and number 2 in the States. This is Barry's performance on Ally McBeal in season two, which was back in 1998. There you have it our list of 14 LOVE SONGS for February 2026. The list is enclosed below so you can add some of these numbers to your playlist. The SALections started as a TV sports segment years ago in Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia. We were fortunate to have a healthy following and the local newspaper in Norfolk called it the best local TV sports segment. Over the years, I often thought how can I broaden the SALections out to appeal to anyone, not just sports fans. During a game of banana grams, the idea of dynamic categories that would appeal to anyone was the light bulb moment. Our newsletter began in September 2024 and is available on our website - www.salectionsofthemonth.com
